Why is SAP so popular?
It appears to me that SAP is not particularly user friendly. As there are so many vendors offering products in ERP, many of them smaller, specialized in market segments and more user friendly. Why is it that SAP is so popular? Is Oracle also not too user friendly???
SAP is sometimes very user friendly. Think about the possibility to change the layout of the overviews.
However you buy functionality when you think ERP. SAP provides more and better solutions than the rest.

LikeDislikeSAP can be very user friendly. However, clients often attempt to use too much functionality, which results in complexity for users. Also, training and documentation is often underfunded on SAP projects.SAP revised the interface with version 4.6 too be more user friendly. Unfortunately, this does not match software that is more narrowly focused on specific vertical markets.
The reason that many large companies use SAP is that SAP has the largest breadth of products for ERP requirements. SAP has been writing code since the seventies and continues to do so today. Their products cover all the requirements of a large international conglomerate, unlike other competitors. Also, the SAP infrastructure is very robust.
